Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has launched the National Sanitation Week 2026, calling for stronger public participation in improving hygiene and sanitation across the country.
The campaign, organised by the Ministry of Health under the theme “Accelerating Safely Managed Sanitation for a Healthier Uganda,” began on March 16 and will conclude in Fort Portal on March 19.
Speaking at the launch, Buzeki said safely managed sanitation goes beyond infrastructure, describing it as key to protecting public health, preserving the environment, and safeguarding human dignity.

She noted that progress will depend on collective action from government, partners, communities, and households.
Buzeki urged residents to prioritise hygiene in their daily lives, saying sanitation starts with individuals and extends to homes, workplaces, and public spaces.
KCCA says it will continue strengthening sanitation systems and promoting better hygiene practices across the capital.
She called on the public to take part in the week’s activities and sustain proper sanitation habits beyond the campaign.
“A healthier Uganda starts with each of us,” she said.
