MOH Launches Mass Nutrition Screening Campaign in Kiryandongo to Tackle Child Malnutrition

The Ministry of Health, in partnership with UNICEF Uganda, UNHCR Uganda and World Health Organization Uganda, has launched a mass nutrition screening campaign in Kiryandongo District aimed at strengthening early detection of malnutrition among vulnerable populations. The campaign is specifically targeting refugee-hosting communities, where access to care remains critically low, with only 48 percent of severely malnourished children currently receiving treatment.Officials say the initiative comes at a challenging time, as reduced humanitarian funding continues to limit access to food, nutrition support and essential primary health care services across settlements that host nearly two million refugees.Beyond screening, the campaign is also delivering a package of integrated health services, including Vitamin A supplementation, deworming, immunisation, and referrals for specialised treatment where necessary The Ministry says the intervention is part of broader efforts to close gaps in child health services and ensure that at-risk children are identified and treated early before their condition worsens.
