Uganda Media Centre hosted a press briefing this morning ahead of the upcoming CIO–CxO Conclave 2026, scheduled for 24th April at the National ICT Hub. The event, a key initiative under the National Development Plan IV (NDP IV), aims to position Chief Information Officers (CIOs) as central drivers of business growth and national transformation.
Speaking to the media, officials highlighted Uganda’s steady progress in digital transformation, citing advancements in connectivity, digital payments, e-government services, and innovation across sectors such as fintech, agritech, and e-commerce. The focus, they noted, is now shifting toward strengthening leadership, improving execution, and enhancing coordination to sustain this momentum.
As part of the conclave activities, the 2026 CIO–CxO Digital Transformation and eGovernment Leadership Awards will be launched to recognize excellence in the sector. The programme will also feature a Tech Leadership Workshop on 23rd April, as well as the rollout of the National Tech Skills Talent Program (2025–2035), aimed at addressing ICT skills gaps and equipping young people with relevant digital competencies.
Government also outlined ongoing efforts to support the digital creator economy by engaging global platforms such as X (Twitter) and TikTok to expand monetisation opportunities. At the same time, measures are being taken to strengthen digital payment systems and policy frameworks to support growth in the sector.
Through National Information Technology Authority Uganda (NITA-U), the government continues to expand the National Backbone Infrastructure, reduce internet costs, extend last-mile connectivity, and roll out public Wi-Fi to improve access to digital services across the country.
Stakeholders have been urged to actively participate in the conclave and contribute to advancing Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
