Aisha Batala Naluzze has continued oversight visits to properties recovered from corruption, as government moves to finalize their valuation and eventual disposal.
During a site visit to a property in Bukoto formerly owned by Geoffrey Kazinda, Government Valuer Gilbert Kermundu revealed that the valuation of 17 recovered properties will be completed within one month. The properties were reclaimed by the Inspectorate of Government from individuals implicated in corruption-related cases.
Kermundu assured that the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has the capacity to complete the exercise within the set timeframe, citing a skilled valuation team and adherence to a client charter that guides timelines for such assignments. He noted that the process is progressing as planned and should not exceed one month.
The Bukoto property is among the assets linked to Kazinda, a former principal accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister, who was convicted in 2020 for illicit enrichment. Court findings indicated that he possessed wealth exceeding UGX 4 billion, which was not consistent with his known sources of income. Following his conviction, the court ordered that his properties be taken over by the government.
The ongoing valuation exercise is intended to facilitate the disposal of the recovered assets, as part of broader efforts to recover public funds and strengthen accountability.
