UCC Urges Responsible Use of Digital Platforms

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) has urged the public to use digital platforms responsibly following concerns over rising misuse of social media.
This follows a ruling by the Constitutional Court of Uganda that annulled certain provisions of the Computer Misuse Amendment Act, 2022.
The decision has created confusion among some users about the laws governing online conduct.
However, UCC clarified that key provisions under the Computer Misuse Act, including those on cyber harassment and electronic fraud, remain in force.
Other laws such as the Uganda Communications Act and the Data Protection and Privacy Act also continue to regulate digital platforms.
The public has been encouraged to act responsibly online and report misuse to the relevant authorities.
