IG Recovers Over UGX 300M from Corrupt Officials

The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has recovered UGX 335,679,355 from 62 public officials out of the 202 who had defaulted on payment of the refund of monies owed to Government.

The recoveries follow a public notice issued by the IG highlighting an outstanding amount of UGX 2,363,814,211 which had been irregularly utilized by the officials for personal gain, to the detriment of public service delivery.

Of the 62 officials who have made payments, 38 cleared their outstanding balances in full, amounting to UGX 214,079,355, while 24 officials made partial payments totaling UGX 121,600,000.

Out of the remaining 140 officials who have not made any payments, two have surrendered properties, which are to undergo valuation by the IG.

These recoveries affirm the IG’s commitment to promoting integrity, transparency and accountability in public offices.

The IG will institute charges related to disobedience of lawful orders and abuse of office against officials who remain non-compliant
