President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has hosted a delegation from the Egyptian Armed Forces Staff and Command College at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, where he delivered a lecture on the Nile Basin and Africa’s development path.
Museveni told the delegation that the key challenge facing the Nile is not colonial-era agreements but underdevelopment in tropical regions. He pointed to limited electricity, low levels of industrialisation and the effects of climate change as the real constraints.
He said the solution lies in expanding electrification and industrialisation to support sustainable use of water resources while protecting the environment.
During the session, the President also outlined the historical missions that have shaped Uganda’s direction, including the rejection of identity-based politics in favour of nationalism and Pan-Africanism, as well as the push for socio-economic transformation and African unity.
