11 Arrested Over Soroti Mobile Money Murder, Police Recover Gun and Cash

Police have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the aggravated robbery and fatal shooting of Soroti City businesswoman, Kokunda Patricia.

The 36-year-old mobile money operator was shot dead on April 3 at about 4:40 AM near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road. The attackers fled with her handbag containing cash and other valuables.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke says the arrests follow intelligence-led operations across Soroti, Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim districts.

“We have made significant progress. From the initial four suspects, we now have 11 in custody as investigations continue to uncover the entire network behind this crime,” Rusoke said.

Among those arrested are:

  • Epeu Simon alias Iboda, suspected to have pulled the victim from her vehicle
  • Emenyu David alias Ogwang Sam alias Olipong, believed to be the shooter
  • Okello Emmanuel alias Imorning, identified as a key planner
  • Eyamu Rashid alias Odekuro, alleged to have initiated the robbery plan
  • Elacu Alfred and his wife Akello Hellen, suspected to have supplied ammunition
  • Okello Alex, Ojele Jorem alias Jogo, Elwanu Julius, Onebo Felix, and Akello Salume

Police say key exhibits have been recovered, including a rifle suspected to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing worn during the attack, a red numberless motorcycle, and a Tecno Canon phone belonging to the deceased.

A total of UGX 10.5 million has been recovered out of the estimated UGX 28 million stolen.

“Operations are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover more exhibits. We urge the public to share any information that can support the investigations,” Rusoke added.
