Police Arrest Two Additional Suspects in Sydney Gongodyo Mob Killing Case

Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the death of professional rugby player Sydney Gongodyo, who was allegedly killed by a mob during an incident that occurred on 5 June 2026.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the suspects have been identified as Mugwiisa Obed and Owino Joseph, a security guard. Investigators say Mugwiisa was captured in video footage wearing a yellow T-shirt and carrying a large log during the incident.

During interrogation, Mugwiisa reportedly led detectives to a local laundry where he had taken the yellow T-shirt he was seen wearing on the day of the attack. The garment was recovered and has been added to the evidence being examined by investigators.

The latest arrests bring the total number of suspects in custody to ten as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged mob killing.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals believed to have taken part in the incident. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that all those responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.

The force added that further updates will be provided as investigations continue.
