Courtesy call by IGAD Head of Mission on the Minister of Foreign Affairs

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo, today met with Ms. Joselyn Bigirwa, Head of Mission of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), at the Ministry Headquarters.

Ms. Bigirwa briefed the Minister on IGAD’s revised approach to Member State engagement, shifting from broad regional programmes to targeted bilateral cooperation. She informed the Minister that IGAD is developing a 2026–2030 Country Strategy for Uganda aligned with the Fourth National Development Plan. The strategy will prioritize peace and security, economic cooperation, health, and agriculture, and will be implemented in partnership with relevant MDAs. She added that IGAD coordinates its engagement with Uganda through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, particularly on matters of regional peace and security.

Ms. Bigirwa also underscored the importance of Member States honoring their assessed contributions to enable IGAD to effectively deliver on its mandate.

In his remarks, Hon. Kasolo reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to IGAD and welcomed the proposed Country Strategy. He underscored the need to deepen collaboration between IGAD and government institutions to advance regional integration, peace, stability, and sustainable development.
