Heads of Government Agencies have reaffirmed their commitment to stronger inter-agency collaboration and the advancement of quality infrastructure as Uganda works towards industrialisation, improved trade competitiveness and the Government’s Ten-Fold Growth Strategy.
The commitment was made during the 7th Meeting of Heads of Government Agencies (HOGA), hosted by the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) at Standards House in Bweyogerere.
The meeting provided a platform for government agency heads to strengthen coordination, foster collaboration and align institutional priorities with the implementation of the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV).
Speaking during the meeting, UNBS Executive Director Eng. James N. Kasigwa emphasised the importance of integrating standards across government and industry to support Uganda’s development ambitions.
“To realise Uganda’s 10-Fold Growth Strategy, standards must be embedded in government policy, industry, procurement, infrastructure development, and every stage of production,” Kasigwa said.
As part of the engagement, the government agency heads toured UNBS laboratories, including the Chemistry, Electrical, Microbiology, and Materials and Engineering laboratories.
The tour showcased UNBS’ laboratory infrastructure and technical expertise in testing, calibration and conformity assessment, which play a key role in ensuring the quality and safety of products on the Ugandan market.
The laboratories form part of Uganda’s National Quality Infrastructure, supporting efforts to protect public health, facilitate trade, promote industrialisation and improve the competitiveness of locally produced goods.
Participants noted that strengthening quality standards and coordination among government institutions will be critical to creating an enabling environment for enterprise development, investment and job creation.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of government institutions to building a culture of quality, accountability and excellence while improving service delivery and contributing to sustainable socio-economic transformation under NDP IV and the Ten-Fold Growth Strategy.
