Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has announced that Uganda will hold its fourth National Cleaning Day on Saturday, October 31, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., with communities across the country expected to participate.
Nabbanja said the exercise would take place simultaneously across districts, cities, municipalities, town councils, parishes and villages as the government seeks to promote sanitation, environmental protection and public health.
Hoima City has been designated the national cleaning site in recognition of its role as a host city for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. However, the exercise will cover the entire country.
The Prime Minister commended local governments, security agencies, businesses and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative, while urging leaders at all levels to mobilise residents and ensure that cleaning equipment, waste collection services and proper disposal facilities are available.
Priority areas for the exercise include roadsides, markets, drainage channels, schools, health facilities, workplaces and other public spaces.
Nabbanja also called on households, institutions and businesses to adopt responsible waste management practices, including proper waste disposal and avoiding littering.
Movement restrictions will be in force for motor vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians during the designated hours, subject to exemptions for essential services and other authorised categories. The public has been urged to follow official guidance and plan their movements accordingly.
The Prime Minister emphasised that National Cleaning Day should go beyond the three-hour exercise, urging Ugandans to make cleanliness and environmental responsibility part of their daily routines.
She called on citizens across the country to turn up on October 31 and maintain clean surroundings beyond the designated cleaning hours.
