Uganda’s CDF Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba Strengthens Military Ties with Qatar in Strategic Visit

The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, held a meeting with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah.

Invited by the Qatar Armed Forces, the CDF was received by the Minister at his office for discussions, followed by a tour of major military sites.

Later, the Minister hosted Gen Kainerugaba for a luncheon at his residence, where they shared amicable discussions.

Although the UPDF and Qatar Armed Forces established a military cooperation agreement in 2017, Gen Kainerugaba’s visit aims to strengthen this partnership with the Gulf nation.

The 2017 agreement includes collaboration in areas like training, intelligence exchange, and counter-terrorism initiatives.

Before meeting with the Minister, Gen Kainerugaba also met with Maj Gen Jassim Al-Attiyah, Qatar’s Joint Special Forces Commander.

During his visit to the Joint Special Forces Headquarters, Gen Kainerugaba was shown around the facility, where he was briefed on the capabilities of Qatar’s Joint Special Forces.

Accompanying him were Col Christopher Muwumba, his military assistant, and Lt Col Dr. Richard Katungye, Director of Medical Services for the UPDF Special Forces Command.

On Monday, Gen Kainerugaba also met with leaders from Qatar’s Military Police Forces and the National Service Academy, where they discussed shared interests.
