NRM Secretary General Commissions New Party Offices in Bugiri

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, the NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, officially inaugurated the newly established NRM Party offices in Bugiri District. The event, graced by hundreds of enthusiastic NRM supporters, marked a significant milestone for the party in the region.

Constructed through the efforts of Hon. Solomon Silwany, the Member of Parliament for Bukooli Central, the office was formally handed over to the NRM leadership during a ceremony at Bukooli College Grounds in Bugiri.

While addressing the jubilant crowd, Rt. Hon. Todwong lauded Hon. Silwany and everyone who contributed to the construction of the office, emphasizing its significance as a symbol of the party’s commitment and enduring presence in Bugiri.

“I sincerely appreciate the people of Bugiri District for their generous efforts in gifting your party with this brand-new office. Congratulations on your dedication and commitment to strengthening the party. A party office in your district is a cornerstone of its operations and a testament to its active presence,” Todwong remarked.

The Secretary General encouraged party members to reflect on the NRM’s historical journey and its fundamental principles of unity and progress. He reiterated that the party’s ideology transcends religious, gender, and ethnic divides, instead prioritizing the shared needs of all Ugandans. “Regardless of whether you are Muslim or Catholic, you need access to schools, roads, water, and healthcare. Poverty does not discriminate, and neither should our collective fight against it,” he emphasized.

Rt. Hon. Todwong underscored the NRM’s unique governance approach, which he argued differentiates it from other political parties. “The NRM is a champion of peace, stability, and development. While some parties choose to lay blame on President Yoweri Museveni for Uganda’s challenges, we remain focused on eliminating backwardness, poverty, and illiteracy,” he asserted. He attributed the party’s continued electoral success to its steadfast dedication to these principles and its ability to deliver tangible progress.

He also elaborated on the significance of party assets, such as the newly unveiled office, in advancing the NRM’s mission. “A political party is defined by its philosophy, ideology, strategy, workforce, and assets. This office is a crucial resource that will strengthen our influence and broaden our reach in Bugiri,” he noted.

Todwong further highlighted the NRM’s role in restoring peace and stability in Uganda. He contrasted the present-day harmonious relationship between security forces and civilians with the past, when uniformed personnel were often feared due to misuse of power. “The peace we enjoy today is a direct outcome of the NRM’s transformative leadership. It is the very foundation upon which we are building a thriving Uganda,” he stated.

Touching on the Parish Development Model (PDM), a government initiative aimed at alleviating poverty at the grassroots level, Todwong expressed hope that the program was being effectively implemented in Bugiri. However, he cautioned against mismanagement, noting, “In some districts, the funds are not reaching the intended beneficiaries. This must not be the case here. We must ensure transparency and accountability in all our initiatives.”

Hon. Solomon Silwany expressed gratitude to the Secretary General for making time to visit and engage with the people of Bugiri. He encouraged residents to continue embracing government programs aimed at improving livelihoods.

The event was also attended by Bunya South MP Hon. Iddi Isabirye, who serves as Chairperson of the first Busoga Parliamentary Caucus, RDC Mr. Kalikwani Paul, Assistant RDC Mr. Situma Gilbert, and other dignitaries.
