KAMPALA– The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced new nomination dates for the 2025/2026 General Elections, affecting Local Government, Parliamentary, and Presidential candidates, according to Chairperson Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon.
Local Government nominations are now staggered: District/City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors from September 3–5, 2025; Municipality/City Division Chairpersons and Councillors from September 8–10, 2025; and Sub County/Town/Municipal Division Chairpersons and Councillors from September 11–24, 2025 (excluding weekends). Forms will be available at District/City offices or online at www.ec.or.ug starting August 11, 2025.
Parliamentary nominations, including for Special Interest Groups, are rescheduled to October 15–16, 2025, at District/City Returning Officers’ offices. Forms and guidelines will be online from August 11, 2025.
Presidential nomination forms and guidelines can be collected from August 11–September 24, 2025, at the Commission’s head office in Kampala, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aspirants need supporter signatures from two-thirds of Uganda’s districts. Party representatives require authorization, and independents need voter registration proof.
