Government through the Office of the Prime Minister has embarked on the exercise of re-opening and building of the new cooperative societies in Teso sub-region.
Cooperative societies are said to have started collapsing in 1980s when European Scientists started mixing petroleum, air and water to produce polyester that replaced cotton.
The technology left a number of countries that depended on cotton economically stressed after cotton lost value.
Government has now embarked on re-opening and building of the new cooperative societies in Teso sub-region aimed at improving the production of cash crops under Parish Development Model.
“The move is to boost the production of the cash crops prioritized under Parish Development Model,”said the Minister of State for Teso Affairs Dr. Clement Ongalo Obote.
Farmers now believe that the coming of the new cooperative societies will help them to break through the marketing process.
They are now focused on acquiring the processing equipment in future to supplement the element of value addition. This project is being implemented by DINU with the support from European Union.
