The Parliamentary Forum on EAC Affairs (PEACA) signed an MOU with EALA. The ceremony took place at the EAC Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. The signing ceremony was preceded by a meeting between PEACA and EALA Commission Chaired by the Speaker of EALA. The MOU will provide a framework of cooperation between PEACA and EALA. Commissioners of EALA Uganda Chapter Hon. Rose Akol and Hon. Mary Mugyenyi and the EALA Uganda Chapter Chairperson Hon. George Odongo were present to witness the ceremony. PEACA Vice Chairperson Hon. Silas Aogon and the technical staff of PEACA – Diana Kembabazi and Allen Birungi represented PEACA.
The Speaker of EALA Rt. Hon. Martin Ngoga lauded the efforts of Uganda Parliament for creating a forum that will enhance the work of EALA through sensitization, fast tracking of domestication of laws, implementation of regional commitments etc. On his part, Hon. Silas Aogon thanked EALA for it’s great work towards regional integration. He pointed out that PEACA will play a complimentary role in promoting regional integration through the work of national parliaments.
