National Drug Authority Cracks Down on Illegal Drug Outlets, Ensuring Public Health and Safety in Northern Uganda

The National Drug Authority (NDA) has successfully concluded a 5-day compliance enforcement operation targeting illegal drug outlets in the Northern Region, spanning 6 districts including Apac, Alebtong, Kole, Lira City, Oyam, and Lira.

During this operation, a total of 216 drug outlets operating without licenses or employing unqualified personnel were closed. Additionally, 268 boxes of assorted medicines, valued at over 69,000,000 Ugandan Shillings, were impounded.

This operation aligns with NDA’s mandate to safeguard public health by regulating human and animal medicines as well as healthcare products effectively. NDA has advised operators whose drugs were impounded to visit their Northern Regional offices in Lira City to receive guidance on compliance procedures to retrieve their drugs.

All operators currently operating without licenses or employing unqualified staff are directed to cease operations until they fulfill the necessary licensing requirements. The public is urged to purchase drugs exclusively from licensed pharmacies and drug shops. Additionally, citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any individuals suspected to be involved in drug-related crimes through the toll-free line 0800 101 999 or the WhatsApp line 0740 002 070.
