High Court Restrains Sheikh Shaban Mubajje as Uganda’s Mufti

The High Court in Jinja has issued an injunction prohibiting Sheikh Shaban Mubajje from referring to himself as the legitimate Mufti of Uganda.

This decision follows an argument presented by Counsel Erias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola, who highlighted the orders issued by Honorable Lady Justice Alexandra Nkonge Rugadya.

Acting on the 22nd of December 2023, the Principal Judge declared that Sheikh Mubaje had already been retired in the public interest by the General Assembly convened on the 16th and 17th of December 2023.

Subsequently, His Eminence Sheikh Abdallah Ssemambo was sworn in by the UMSC General Assembly as the Acting Mufti of Uganda. Therefore, the current status quo, as directed by the Court, is in effect.
