Uganda Broadcasting Corporation(UBC) is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the National Environment Management Authority’s (NEMA) Excellence Award for Sustainability This recognition celebrates UBC’s steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship, made possible by the tireless efforts of our dedicated sustainability team.
The award was presented at the inaugural National Environment Sustainability Awards held at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel on June 28, 2024. The event, mandated under Section 5 of the National Environment Act, No. 5 of 2019, aims to promote and recognize exemplary environmental practices that enhance resource productivity and mitigate environmental pollution.
The evening began with guests arriving and registering, enjoying a cocktail reception, photographs, and networking opportunities. Traditional entertainment set the mood.
Dr. Barirega Akankwasah, NEMA’s Executive Director, delivered the opening remarks, followed by Japheth Kato’s keynote address on “Sustainability under Capitalism Ideology.”
Throughout the event, MCs Mr. Moses Rudende and Ms. Naomi Karekaho hosted award segments that recognized outstanding achievements in sustainability.
Hon. Beatrice Anywar, Minister of State for Environment, and Hon. Sam Cheptoris, Minister of Water and Environment, delivered closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship.
