UPDF Team Sets Off for 2nd Africa Military Games in Abuja

A contingent of 27 personnel from the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has been dispatched to represent Uganda in the 2nd Africa Military Games, set to take place in Abuja, Nigeria.

During the send-off event at the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo, the Joint Staff Headquarters Brigade Group Commander, Maj Gen Dr Joseph Lucky Kidega, expressed gratitude to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, for his commitment to ensuring UPDF’s participation in the African Military Games.

Wishing the team success, Maj Gen Dr Kidega urged them, saying, “Travel safely and return with gold.”

Brig Gen Richard Karemire, who leads the delegation and oversees Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports, and Culture, commented, “The team is not only aiming for victory but will also represent the spirit of African solidarity that bonds us,” highlighting their role as UPDF representatives on an international platform.

The inaugural African Military Games took place in 2002 in Nairobi, Kenya, where the UPDF earned silver and bronze medals.

Also in attendance at the ceremony were Brig Gen Mwanje Ssekiranda, Chief of Staff-Reserve Force; Brig Gen Hassan Kimbowa, Adjutant Land Force Headquarters, and other high-ranking officers.
