Three people have been confirmed dead and four others injured following a tragic road crash involving a Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) vehicle and a crossing elephant along the Arua road in Murchison Falls National Park, Nwoya District.
According to traffic police spokesperson Michael Kananura, the incident occurred on the night of 24th May 2026 at approximately 8:00 p.m. when motor vehicle registration number UA 20121AA, a Toyota Hiace carrying seven URA officials, collided with a crossing elephant while travelling from Arua City to Kampala after official duty.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle after the impact, leading to the fatal crash. Three occupants died on the spot, while four others, including the driver, sustained injuries.
Police responded to the scene and rushed the injured victims to Kiryandongo Hospital for emergency treatment before they were later referred to Kampala for further management. The bodies of the deceased were taken to Anaka Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examinations.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving through national parks and wildlife-protected areas, especially at night, and to strictly observe speed limits to prevent similar incidents.
