National leaders have paid tribute to the late Gen (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali, describing him as a distinguished soldier, liberation fighter, statesman and patriot whose service to Uganda spanned more than five decades.
The tributes were delivered during his burial ceremony in Adjumani, where the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) joined the nation in paying final respects to the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West Member of Parliament.
Representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Vice President Maj Gen (Rtd) Jessica Alupo delivered a message in which the President commended Gen Moses Ali’s contribution to Uganda’s liberation and the transformation of the West Nile region.
President Museveni credited the late General with supporting programmes that contributed to the region’s development, including electricity extension, road construction, expansion of ferry services, education and wealth creation initiatives.
He also condemned the historical marginalisation of West Nile and called for national unity, emphasising that no Ugandan should face discrimination based on tribe, religion, region or gender.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa described Gen Moses Ali as a humble and approachable leader who related with people from all walks of life regardless of their status.
Representing the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Huda Abason Oleru described the late General as a soldier, liberation fighter, statesman, mentor and father of the nation. She said his service included senior roles in Parliament and Cabinet, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Second Deputy Prime Minister.
Hon. Oleru added that even after retirement, Gen Moses Ali continued to mentor young officers and advise government on matters of security, governance and national cohesion.
Leaders said Gen Moses Ali will be remembered for his courage, wisdom, patriotism and distinguished contribution to Uganda’s development and national unity.
