Taifa Group has announced that Nation Media Group (NMG) will resume operations in Uganda following authorisation by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The Tanzania-based investment group, which is the majority shareholder in Nation Media Group through its subsidiary, Taarifa Limited, said the decision marks an important milestone for regional investment, media development and East African integration.
Taifa Group Chairman Rostam Aziz thanked President Museveni for approving the company’s return to Uganda and also acknowledged the role played by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba during the engagements that led to the decision.
“We are honoured by this decision and remain steadfast in our commitment to Uganda’s socio-economic development through responsible investment, long-term partnerships and sustainable value creation,” Aziz said.
He added that Taifa Group supports Nation Media Group’s commitment to fair, balanced and responsible journalism that contributes to public discourse and national development.
Nation Media Group Chairman Joe Muganda said the company’s immediate focus would be on rebuilding its presence in Uganda by reconnecting with audiences, employees, commercial partners and communities.
“We welcome the opportunity to resume operations in Uganda and to reconnect with our audiences, employees, commercial partners and communities,” Muganda said.
He said the company would restore its platforms responsibly, strengthen local content and deliver credible journalism across its print, broadcast and digital platforms.
Muganda added that Nation Media Group would leverage its regional experience to support the growth of Uganda’s media industry while creating opportunities for talent, enterprise and public engagement.
According to Taifa Group, the resumption of operations reflects the enduring relationship between Uganda and Tanzania and the wider commitment to regional integration, cross-border investment and economic cooperation within the East African Community.
The company said Nation Media Group will also draw on its presence in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda to strengthen regional conversations and support social and economic development across East Africa.
