The Uganda–South Korea Trade and Investment Meeting is underway in the Republic of South Korea, bringing together Government officials, business leaders and investors to explore opportunities for increased trade, investment, technology transfer and commercial partnerships between the two countries.
In her welcoming remarks, H.E. Ambassador Khaawa, Uganda’s Ambassador to Japan and concurrently accredited to the Republic of South Korea, thanked the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) for co-hosting the meeting and mobilising South Korean businesses to participate. She expressed optimism that the meeting would open a new chapter in Uganda–South Korea commercial and investment relations.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Lee Sang-Jun, Vice President of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), highlighted the importance of strengthening commercial linkages and creating practical business opportunities between Uganda and South Korea.
Mr. Kwon Young-chong, Director General for African and Middle Eastern Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Korea, reaffirmed South Korea’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and expressed confidence that the meeting would generate practical investments and partnerships.
Delivering the keynote address, Rt. Hon. Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, Second Deputy Prime Minister of Uganda, underscored Uganda’s strategic location, access to regional and continental markets, and the country’s diverse investment opportunities. He encouraged South Korean businesses to explore opportunities in agro-processing, coffee value addition, manufacturing, technology and industrial development.
The meeting is expected to generate concrete business partnerships, investments, jobs and shared prosperity while further strengthening the economic partnership between Uganda and the Republic of South Korea.
