Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade for resuming construction works on health infrastructure projects in Mitooma District.
Tayebwa made the remarks during an inspection of Bitereko Health Centre III and Kigyende Health Centre III, which is being upgraded from a Health Centre II.
He welcomed the return of the UPDF engineering team to the sites, noting that some of the projects had stalled. Tayebwa said the team had assessed the facilities and committed to resuming construction work the following week.
The Deputy Speaker also expressed preference for the UPDF Engineers Brigade to continue implementing the projects, citing its record in delivering public infrastructure.
Col. Fulgence Miyaga, Chairman of the Construction Committee of the UPDF Administration and Civil Engineers Brigade, said the team was inspecting projects across the country to assess progress and report to the strategic headquarters.
At Kigyende, site engineer Lt. Vincent Ongaba attributed the delays to difficult terrain and the destruction of a bridge that had affected access to the project site.
He said works would resume following restoration of the bridge, with the team expecting to make significant progress within six months of remobilisation.
The health infrastructure projects are funded by the Government of Uganda and were initially scheduled for completion within six months before the implementation period was extended to 12 months.
