Bishop Kagodo Urges Parents to Put Faith and Discipline at the Centre of Education

By SHARON BASILIKA

The Bishop of Mukono Diocese, Rt. Rev. Enos Kitto Kagodo, has urged parents to consider the religious and moral foundations of schools when choosing where to educate their children, warning that academic achievement alone is not enough to prepare young people for the challenges of life.

Bishop Kagodo said parents must take an active interest in their children’s upbringing rather than leaving the responsibility of instilling discipline and moral values entirely to schools.

He made the remarks during a confirmation service for 240 Anglican students of Seeta Schools, held at Seeta University in Mbalala, Mukono District.

Drawing his sermon from Daniel 3:1–25, Bishop Kagodo referred to the biblical account of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who defied King Nebuchadnezzar’s order to worship a golden image despite the threat of being thrown into a burning furnace.

He challenged the students to stand by their Christian beliefs even when faced with pressure to compromise their values.

The Bishop also commended parents who have continued to invest in the education of both boys and girls, saying every child deserves an opportunity to attend school.

He thanked the management of Seeta Schools for supporting the activities of Mukono Diocese, particularly the ongoing construction of the new diocesan cathedral.

Meanwhile, Seeta Schools director Rose Muyingo called for greater parental involvement in children’s discipline and religious upbringing.

Muyingo said schools could provide academic instruction and guidance, but the conduct and values children develop at home remain equally important.

She urged parents to reinforce the teachings children receive at school and maintain close contact with teachers over matters concerning their behaviour and progress.
