Uganda and Thailand are exploring opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation and boost investment following a Uganda–Thailand Economic Networking Dinner held on the sidelines of the Annual World Bank/International Monetary Fund (IMF) Meetings in Bangkok.
The event, hosted by the Uganda High Commission in Malaysia in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, brought together senior government officials, investors and private-sector representatives from both countries.
Uganda’s Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST), Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi, presented an overview of the country’s economy and highlighted key investment opportunities available to Thai investors.
Ggoobi identified agro-processing, light manufacturing, tourism and hospitality as priority sectors offering opportunities for cooperation and investment.
Thai investors also expressed interest in several areas of Uganda’s economy, including agro-industrialisation, mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, financing, and tourism.
The discussions signal potential for deeper economic ties between Uganda and Thailand, with both countries looking to explore investment opportunities that could support industrial development, expand trade and strengthen private-sector partnerships.
The engagement forms part of Uganda’s efforts to promote its investment potential internationally and attract foreign capital into key sectors of the economy.
