Police in Entebbe Division are investigating an attack on Kibuku County Member of Parliament Herbert Kinobere and other mourners supporting the National Resistance Movement (NRM) during the burial of former Busiro South MP Charles Matovu.
The incident occurred on October 25, 2026, at Kungu Lutale along Nakawuka Road, where a group of National Unity Platform (NUP) political activists allegedly opposed to the presence of NRM supporters attacked the mourners.
According to police, the attackers damaged Kinobere’s vehicle, including deflating its tyres, forcing the legislator to flee the scene to avoid harm.
Police officers intervened and secured the affected mourners, including those who had sought refuge during the incident.
A total of 20 suspects were arrested and detained at Entebbe Police Station as investigations into the attack continue.
Police have urged the public to respect mourners regardless of their political affiliations and refrain from violence, intimidation and destruction of property.
The incident highlights concerns over political tensions at public gatherings, with police calling for tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people of different political persuasions.
