Women In Film Uganda Launches Women In Film Organisation
Women In Film Uganda is proud to announce the official launch of the Women In Film Organisation, a non-governmental organisation dedicated to empowering women in the Ugandan film industry. The launch will take place on 26th October 2024 at Skyz Hotel, Naguru. The organisation aims to address the challenges faced by women in the industry and provide a platform for their growth through training, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of Women In Film Uganda is to uplift and advance female creatives in Ugandan cinema, equipping them with the necessary tools to succeed. The core objectives include:
- Empowering women in the film industry by enhancing their skills and opportunities.
- Providing training in various filmmaking disciplines like directing, producing, and screenwriting.
- Equipping participants with business management skills for effective navigation in the film industry.
- Offering digital literacy training to stay updated with the latest tools and technologies in the film marketplace.
- Addressing exploitation and harassment by empowering participants to respond to such challenges.
Key Initiatives
To achieve these objectives, the Women In Film Organisation has developed several key initiatives:
- Monologue Challenge: This challenge provides a platform for aspiring actresses to showcase their talents. Participants receive acting training and workshops to develop their skills in any aspect of filmmaking. The first edition in 2023 awarded the winner 500,000 Ugandan Shillings.
- Women in Film Workshops: These workshops cover various aspects of filmmaking, entrepreneurship, and leadership. The first edition included six workshops facilitated by industry professionals and focused on acting, directing, writing, branding, and career development.
- Women in Film Symposium: An annual event bringing together women in the film industry to discuss their experiences and explore collaborative ways to improve working environments. The 2024 symposium will be held at Skyz Hotel on 26th October and will include the official launch of the organisation, board announcements, and the introduction of the Women In Film production hub.
- Incubation Program: A six-month screenwriting incubation program sponsored by Witchaflicks will help women in the industry develop their skills. More incubation programs are planned for different filmmaking aspects.
- Women in Film Production Hub: The production hub will provide women with access to affordable equipment and resources to create content, ensuring they have the necessary tools to thrive in the industry.
Support and Collaboration
Women In Film Uganda calls for support from stakeholders, the film industry, and well-wishers to help achieve its mission. Support can come in the form of equipment for the production hub, funding, training, or any in-kind assistance that aligns with the organisation’s goals.
The organisation has carefully selected a distinguished board of directors from the film industry, including Mariam Ndagire, Cleopatra Koheirwe, Nathan Magoola, Aganza Kisaka, Lora Lucky Atwiine, Nana Kagga, Petit Iriho, Tracy Mimi, and Dorothy Nabunjo, to help guide its vision.
