UPDF Artillery Division Celebrates Graduation of 58 Trainees with Emphasis on Discipline and Professional Growth

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Artillery Division held a ceremony to mark the graduation of 58 personnel from an intensive training program conducted at Kibuku Training School in Ntoroko District.

The event, officiated by Colonel Jimmy Ssenkungu, Commander of the 101 Artillery Brigade, emphasized the importance of discipline and professionalism in military service. Col. Ssenkungu highlighted the value of consistent training, stating, “Sweat more in training to bleed less in battle.” He encouraged the graduates to pursue advanced courses and refresher programs to enhance their military expertise. Additionally, he stressed the need for physical fitness and maintaining good health, warning against excessive alcohol consumption and irresponsible sexual behavior, which could jeopardize their careers and personal well-being.

Major Onesmas Kakuru, the Division Political Commissar, addressed financial management, urging the graduates to invest their earnings wisely and make prudent use of Wazalendo SACCO loans.

Outstanding trainees were acknowledged for their achievements: Major Silver Tushabomwe was awarded best overall, Lieutenant Gideon Nkurunungi excelled in academics, Corporal Mugisha Boney topped in fieldwork, and Warrant Officer Class One Ojok James was recognized as the most disciplined student.

The ceremony, attended by senior and junior officers alongside artillery students, reaffirmed the UPDF’s dedication to promoting professionalism, discipline, and ongoing development within its ranks.
