Brigadier General Joseph Ssemwanga, Sector One Commander of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) under the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), launched a five-day interactive staff planning workshop at the Sector One headquarters in Mogadishu.
The workshop, organized with assistance from the United Kingdom Mission Support Team in Somalia (UKMST), focuses on knowledge exchange, joint planning, and tackling operational challenges in Somalia.
Brig Gen Ssemwanga commended the UKMST for their unwavering support, emphasizing the workshop’s significance in boosting operational efficiency. “These sessions are essential for mentorship, coordination, and strategic planning within teams or units, ensuring mission success,” he noted.
Colonel Ben Ramsey, Commander of the British Forces in Somalia, lauded the UPDF for their 18 years of commitment to restoring stability in Somalia, highlighting the value of partnerships and shared knowledge in achieving mission objectives.
The workshop addresses military planning methodologies and emphasizes civil-military collaboration to gain the support of key stakeholders in the mission area.
Senior officials, including the Deputy Sector One Commander, the Training Officer from AUSSOM Force Headquarters, and department heads at Sector One headquarters, attended the event, demonstrating a collective effort toward accomplishing mission goals.
