UPDF’s Lifesaving Medical Outreach Transforms Communities in Ssembabule and Bukomansimbi

Residents of Ssembabule and Bukomansimbi districts have expressed their appreciation to the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces for their intervention through critical medical services. They praised the medical team for their commitment, prompt response, and diligence in delivering healthcare.

Lt Col Dr. Joseph Mwesige, the team leader in the region, disclosed that the medical team has performed numerous life-saving major and minor surgical procedures for the local community.

He underscored the significance and timeliness of the UPDF medical team’s deployment, noting that within a week, they had successfully conducted 900 surgeries at Butenga Health Centre II and Lwebitakuli in Ssembabule, 700 in Ntusi, 500 at Kissa Hospital in Bukomansimbi, and 700 in Bigasa. Moreover, the team provided medical attention to over 800 patients through mobile outreach clinics at Kagogo Health Centre II.

Dr. Hellen Kasaija, an obstetrician-gynecologist from General Military Hospital Bombo, conveyed her appreciation to the Joint Staff Medical Services for enabling them to undertake such a vital mission.

Dr. Kasaija emphasized the impact of these medical outreaches, stressing that the UPDF’s presence has been instrumental in saving mothers who could have lost their lives due to maternal health complications.

Additional services offered during the outreach included malaria screening, counseling for HIV patients and young people, ENT (ear, nose, and throat) treatments, and dental services, among others.
