Kampala Police Crack Down on Criminal Hideouts in Kajjansi, 48 Suspects Arrested

WAKISO– In a move to curb rising crime, the Kajjansi Police Division under Kampala Metropolitan Police South launched a sweeping intelligence led operation on July today, targeting notorious criminal black spots in the division. The meticulously planned raid resulted in the arrest of 48 suspects across multiple locations, including Muchanga, Kajjansi, and the infamous Sanyu Brothel, exposing a web of criminal activity that has plagued local communities.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, revealed that the operation was spurred by actionable intelligence pinpointing criminal elements operating in crime prone areas like Lweza. “These individuals habitually gather, gamble, and loiter, using these activities as a cover for more sinister intentions,” Owoyesigyire told reporters.

Preliminary investigations uncovered a chilling pattern: many of the arrested suspects, primarily youths aged 17 to 23, posed as bottle and dustbin collectors during the day. However, under the cover of darkness, these individuals allegedly transformed into predators, orchestrating home invasions and robbing residents of their valuables. “In places like Muchanga, these youths disguise their true intentions, only to strike at odd hours,” Owoyesigyire explained.

The operation yielded critical evidence, with police recovering housebreaking tools, including two pliers, three testas, and three knives, all now secured for forensic analysis. Statements from both victims and arresting officers have been recorded, painting a grim picture of the suspects’ operations. All 48 individuals are currently detained at Bwebajja and Lubowa Police Stations, awaiting further investigation and eventual court appearances.

“This is a clear message to those who threaten the safety of our communities,” Owoyesigyire declared. “The police are committed to disrupting criminal networks and ensuring justice is served.” He also called on the public to remain vigilant and share timely information to bolster police efforts. “Your cooperation is our strength,” he urged.

The arrests have sparked hope among residents of Kajjansi and surrounding areas, who have long endured the shadow of crime. As investigations deepen, authorities are determined to dismantle the networks behind these audacious crimes, restoring peace to the streets of Kampala’s southern metropolitan region.
