Uganda marked its National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka, showcasing the country’s culture, innovation, and investment potential. The celebrations were led by Rt. Hon. RobinahNabbanja, Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda,accompanied by Gen. Mbadi, Minister of State for Trade,Ambassador Tophace Kaahwa, the Ambassador of Uganda in Japan, senior government officials, private sector leaders, and key partners. The event was organized by the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotion Authority (UFZEPA) in collaboration with Uganda’s Embassy in Japan.
Representing Japan was Hon. Yoshitaka Ito, the Minister overseeing Expo 2025 who congratulated Uganda on its National Day and highlighted the importance of collaboration and cultural exchange between Japan and Uganda, while Hon. Yoichi Shimada, Member of Japan’s House of Representatives, attended the evening Dinner Reception.
In her remarks, the Prime Minister highlighted Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy, which aims to expand the economy from USD 61.3 billion today to USD 500 billion by 2040, focusing on agro-industrialization, tourism, mineral development (including oil and gas), and science, technology & innovation, including ICT and the creative arts. She encouraged investors to seize the numerous opportunities that this ambitious strategy presents.
Echoing the Prime Minister’s message, Gen. Mbadi, Minister of State for Trade, emphasized Uganda’s readiness to expand exports and attract investment. He highlighted the government’s commitment to creating a business-friendly environment that unlocks opportunities for both domestic and international investors, reinforcing Uganda’s position as a competitive trade and investment destination.
Hez Kimoomi Alinda, Executive Director of UFZEPA, said that Japan remains a key strategic partner for Uganda. Highlighting the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry in June 2025, he noted that UFZEPA is committed to connecting Ugandan companies to Japanese counterparts and building a mutually beneficial partnership that expands exports and drives growth.
The celebrations included visits to national pavilions of Japan, Saudi Arabia, Mozambique, Rwanda and Kenya, cultural performances by the Ndere Troupe, and exhibitions of Uganda’s premium coffee, crafts, and investment opportunities. Uganda’s participation underscores its growing profile as a dynamic trade and investment destination, ready to connect with global markets and partners.
