The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has appointed Colonel Boaz Kashaya as the new Coordinator of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), replacing Colonel Victor Busobozi.
The handover ceremony was held at the Land Force Headquarters in Bombo and presided over by the Chief of Staff, Land Forces, Major General Chris Bagonza.
Maj Gen Bagonza commended Col Busobozi for his resilience, teamwork and commitment during his tenure, noting that his efforts contributed to the effective coordination of UPDF troops deployed in foreign missions.
He urged Col Kashaya to work closely with staff, seek consultations when necessary and maintain close coordination with the Land Force leadership as he takes on his new responsibilities.
Col Busobozi, while handing over the office, encouraged his successor to strengthen collaboration with relevant institutions and stakeholders to ensure effective execution of the coordinator’s responsibilities.
In his remarks, Col Kashaya thanked the UPDF leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledged to perform his duties to the best of his ability.
He also asked Col Busobozi to remain available for consultation and guidance to ensure a smooth transition and continuity in the execution of the office’s mandate.
The ceremony was attended by the Director Anti-Aircraft and Commander Land Forces, Brigadier General Kasauli, directors at Land Forces Headquarters, as well as senior and junior UPDF officers.
