Ambassador Mariam Lesian, President of the Pan Africa Tourism Board, has reaffirmed her commitment to promoting African cultural tourism following a courtesy visit to Uganda’s High Commission in Dar es Salaam.
During the meeting held on April 20, 2026, Ambassador Lesian met with Uganda’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Fred Mwesigye, where discussions focused on strengthening cultural diplomacy and regional tourism partnerships across the continent.
Ambassador Lesian highlighted plans to establish a “Pan Africa Village” during the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States and Canada. The initiative aims to showcase Africa’s rich cultural diversity to a global audience attending the tournament.
She emphasized the importance of unity through cultural exchange and expressed readiness to work closely with the Government of Uganda to advance tourism promotion efforts.
In response, Ambassador Mwesigye underscored the growing role of diplomatic missions in advancing commercial diplomacy, tourism, and investment. He encouraged regional tour operators to include Uganda in their travel packages to highlight its unique attractions.
He also invited Ambassador Lesian to participate in the upcoming Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo, set to take place in Kampala.
The meeting concluded with both parties committing to strengthen collaboration aimed at boosting regional tourism and cultural exchange across Africa.
