Speaker warns Corruption Perpetrators their Days are Numbered

The Speaker of Parliament, Oboth Oboth, has warned individuals involved in corruption that Parliament is taking a firm stance against the vice, saying their days are numbered.

Oboth made the remarks as the Inspector General of Government (IGG), Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, presented the Inspectorate’s 55th Bi-Annual Performance Report covering January to June 2026.

The Speaker noted that corruption has evolved beyond traditional forms, with perpetrators increasingly using technology and sophisticated schemes to divert public resources.

“Corruption is no longer a matter of cash hidden in a drawer; today’s schemes are digital, technical and designed to siphon funds,” he said.

He urged the Inspectorate to strengthen its capacity by retooling and equipping its technical staff with skills to investigate increasingly complex corruption schemes.

Oboth also called for closer collaboration between the Inspectorate and Parliament to identify and close gaps in existing laws that may hinder efforts to combat corruption.

He further asked the Inspectorate to propose reforms that would establish a dedicated budget line for whistleblowers, arguing that a properly funded reward mechanism would encourage more people to provide information on corruption.

The Speaker reaffirmed Parliament’s commitment to strengthening accountability and ensuring that public resources are protected from abuse.
