The former Security Minister died this morning from the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.
Gen. Tumwine was transferred to the Nairobi hospital when his condition worsened two weeks ago.
The Uganda People’s Defence Forces is expected to issue a statement shortly.
The Presidency is expected to also release the programme for his burial arrangements later today.
Gen Elly Tumwine was a retired senior army officer who has served as Army commander, State Minister for Defence, Director General of the External Security Organisation, Presidential Adviser and Chair of the High Command appeals committee.
He also served as an Army representative to Uganda’s Parliament for 30 years until 2021.
