The Uganda Human Rights Commission is entangled in a web of uncertainty as it addresses the alleged disappearance of National Unity Platform members, a revelation made by the Chairperson Mariam Wangadya.
The dilemma follows a report carried out by the Uganda Human Rights Commission on the alleged torture and detention of National Unity Platform members.
The NUP Secretary General sent a list of 30 names of alleged missing persons to the Chairperson of the UHRC. Notably, among these 30, five (5) individuals were reportedly arrested in Nakaseke between January and February 2023. The UHRC commenced investigations into the complaints to establish the facts behind the allegations. The aim was to guide the Commission on the next course of action.
The findings established that 12 of the persons who were reported missing were arrested on suspicion of having committed several offenses and were either released on police bond or court bail.
It shows a list of the 12 persons that were released and hence are not missing and also shows the 18 persons who are alleged to still be missing.
