MBARARA: At every university’s graduation, excitement, contentment, and incredible joy is felt by stakeholders as graduads receive their hard-earned degrees and diplomas. At Bishop Stuart University in Mbarara city today, a total of 1773 students were awarded degrees, diplomas, masters and PHD’s in various disciplines during their 17th graduation ceremony.
In his message read for him by Jessica Alupo, H.E YKMuseveni urged graduands to avoid the mentality of getting rich quickly through corrupt means,
the President asked graduands to embrace patriotism.
“I call upon you to heed to the call of patriotism and be active participants in the fight against corruption especially by being exemplary in your own work and I encourage you to utilize the available opportunities and use the skills acquired to cause transformation in communities you live” the President remarked.
He urged graduands to be relevant to their societies by continuously reinventing themselves by focusing on the needs of the people.
The President further urged Institutions of higher learning to focus on transforming the minds of leaders and managers to go beyond technical efficiency but also encapsulate skills like innovativeness, selflessness because,
the kind of education which recognizes ideological concerns will make a critical contribution towards transforming Uganda.
He said government is fully committed to improving the education sector at all levels and asked stakeholders to participate in it’s growth and wellbeing to benefit all Ugandans.
He thanked Ugandans for supporting the NRM government.
“We are deligently working to ensure that Vision 2040 comes to reality as we together transform this nation,”
The President assured the congregation that government will continue to maintain total peace and stability and also continue to intervene in the strategic sectors of our economy.
The President further, the noted that Bishop Stuart University has grown it’s programs inline with government strategy of providing human capital development to transform the country especially in science based disciplines offered in the faculty of Nursing and Environmental Science.
“Government has recently advocated for increase in remuneration of science based jobs to enable Ugandans make good of their education investment and keep up with the global remuneration standards to prevent brain drain and improve the social services sector.
The vice President president lauded parents and guardians for entrusting Bishop Stuart University with their children and supporting them in all expenses.
Rt.Rev. Dr. Sheldon Mwesigwa, the Chancellor of BSU told graduands that success is not automatic but requires a strategy, hard work, sustained focus, continuous learning, discipline and fear of God.
The Bishop advised graduands that to be innovative, they will have to constantly challenge themselves to reach higher by devising better ways of achieving more with less or with nothing at all.
Prof. Maud Kamatenesi Mugisha asked government to support science lecturers. She explained that since government supports students under the loan scheme and State House scholarships, similar support towards postgraduate studies for BSU lecturers should be extended adding that the move, will bear fruits in skilling Uganda.
