Court of Appeal Criminal Session kicks off

The Court of Appeal in Kampala has today kicked off a Criminal Appeals session to handle 42 appeals. The Session that is being presided over by Justices; HL Catherine Bamugemereire, HL Christopher Madrama and HL Eva. K. Luswata will run for three weeks.

According to the causelist signed by the Court’s Deputy Registrar, HW Lillian Bucyana, 11 appeals are in respect to Murder convictions. Of these, one appellant wants the Court to quash his death sentence.

The Court has also set 21st June as the date when it will hear an application filed by Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Sewanyana challenging the decision by the Masaka High Court to deny them bail on two different occasions.

The other Appeals to be handled are (15) are for Aggravated Defilement convictions, (5) are for Aggravated Robbery, (2) are for Rape and (5) for Anti-Corruption related convictions. The other Appeals are; (2) for obtaining money by false pretence, (1) for theft and (1) for criminal trespass.
