Police Records Six Other Incidents of Domestic Violence

The police have recorded several incidents of domestic violence, a continuing concern within the community, with female victims and elderly persons being the most affected. Here are a few examples:

  1. Rukungiri: The police in Rukungiri are actively searching for Tumworobere Amos, also known as Gift, who, on the night of 11.10.2023, killed his wife Kyomugisha Annet, aged 23, at Kateramo trading centre, Kikongi parish, by cutting her neck with a panga. They had been living together since February 2023 without any conflicts. The victim left behind a 4-year-old son, Anderson, who discovered his mother’s lifeless body. The police recovered the murder weapon, and the body was taken to Rwakabenga HC III for post-mortem.
  2. Buvuma: In Ssezibwa Region and Buvuma district, Malekwa Majid, a 45-year-old man, is in custody for hacking his wife Nalumansi Asia, aged 40, to death with a panga. The incident happened on 10.10.2023 during a disagreement in the forest while they were burning charcoal. The suspect abandoned his wife’s body in the forest.
  3. Mukono: Kyeswa Yusuf is in custody in KMP/E and Naggalama division for hacking his step-mother, Nakanwagi Kevina, to death over theft of Ugx 3m. The suspect dumped the body in a pit latrine at Nakyeeke village, Kayiri parish in Mukono district.
  4. Kabarole: In Rwenzori West and Fortportal North, two suspects, Kobusinge Winnie and Musinguzi Bernardo, are in custody for strangling Mwesige Peter, a 42-year-old boda boda rider. The incident occurred on 14.10.2023, and the victim’s body was found in the river Mpanga.
  5. Bushenyi: Byaruhanga Richard, a 23-year-old, is wanted for assaulting and killing his 96-year-old grandmother, Anyesi Tiberebwa. The incident happened on 14.10.2023 when the suspect attacked his grandmother, causing her death.
  6. Mityana: A man named Kibuuka is in custody for attempting to murder his father, Mugerwa Fred, and his sister, Nakanjako Christine, aged 38. The incident occurred on 14.10.2023, and a neighbor, Zaveri, was also injured during the altercation. The suspect claimed his family members did not share the proceeds from a land sale with him.

The police have instructed their commanders to ensure all perpetrators are charged and those still at large are tracked down and arrested. Such acts of violence within families deteriorate the sanctity of marriage and relationships in the community.
