Israeli Ambassador Pays Courtesy Call on Ugandan State Minister for Foreign Affairs

H.E. Michael Lotem, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Uganda, with residence in Nairobi, paid a courtesy call on the Honorable John Mulimba, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala. The meeting, held in the spirit of fostering bilateral relations between Israel and Uganda, served as a platform to discuss matters of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Ambassador Lotem extended heartfelt congratulations to Uganda on the successful hosting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and Group of 77 (G77) conferences in January 2024. He commended Uganda for its exemplary leadership and organizational prowess in convening these significant gatherings, which underscored Uganda’s pivotal role in global diplomacy.

Highlighting the purpose of his visit to Uganda, Ambassador Lotem emphasized the importance of identifying areas of cooperation that could mutually benefit both countries. In this context, he underscored Israel’s expertise in agriculture and agricultural value addition through agro-processing, areas where Israel possesses strong capabilities. He reiterated Israel’s commitment to exploring opportunities for collaboration with Uganda in these fields, with the aim of enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting economic growth.

In response, Honorable Minister Mulimba conveyed his sincere appreciation to Israel for its continued support and collaboration with Uganda. He specifically thanked Ambassador Lotem for the ongoing agriculture student exchange program between the two countries, which has facilitated knowledge sharing and capacity building in the agricultural sector. Minister Mulimbaemphasized Uganda’s keen interest in harnessing Israel’s expertise in agro-processing to add value to its agricultural produce, thereby stimulating rural development and improving livelihoods.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to furthering the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Israel and Uganda. Ambassador Lotem expressed confidence that through sustained dialogue and collaboration, the two countries would continue to explore new avenues of partnership for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
