Uganda Festival at Kenya Coast Draws Thousands with Authentic Culture and Cuisine

In what has been billed as an original, authentic and tasteful festival, the Uganda Festival at the Kenya Coast has attracted thousands of the Coast residents, keen to experience Ugandan culture.

The Festival, organised by Uganda’s Mombasa Consulate, kicked off on Wednesday in Diani, Kwale County.

Uganda’s most identifiable cultural Troupe, Ndere and Africa’s comedy ‘Queen’, Anne Kansiime are the headline performers at the festival.

Uganda’s cuisine, that included Luwombo, Kalo and Rolex were served at the Diani Reef and Ocean Beach resorts in Kwale and Kilifi counties respectively.

The Uganda’s Consul General to Mombasa, Amb Paul Mukumbya says the festival is to promote complementarity of Uganda and Kenya Tourism products. He said Uganda is Kenya’s no.2 source market and that the two neighbouring countries are not in competition.

He said over 500,000 Ugandans visit Kenya in 2023, and that Kwale and Kilifi were key tourism destinations for Ugandans.

Both Kwale and Kilifi recorded full house attendance for the festival that will conclude on Saturday at Fort Jesus in Mombasa County.

The festival is organised by the Mombasa Consulate in partnership with the Kenya Coast Tourism Stakeholders.
