Rwenzori Marathon Lights Up Kasese

The third edition of the Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon was held this Saturday in Kasese District. Over 3,500 runners descended on picturesque Kasese to take part in the annual marathon.

The 42Km and 21Km runs attracted elite runners from Bukwo and Kapchorwa, bidding to win the prize money put up by the organisers. Most runners registered for the 10km and 5km races that attracted several corporates from Kampala.

Kasese was ‘flooded’ with several visitors this weekend for the marathon, with all hotels and motels full to capacity forcing several runners to stay out of town, some even staying as far as Katunguru in the Queen Elizabeth National park.

This edition had participants from over 30 countries and also included influencers from sports brands like Nike, Adidas and Oasics among others.

Ministers of State for Sport, Hon Peter Ogwang, Tourism, Hon Martin Mugarra and ICT, Hon Godfrey Kabbyanga, were in attendance for what is dubbed as the fasted growing marathon event on the continental calendar.

Kasese District has over the last 2 years improved the physical infrastructure of the town, with street lights across the entire town centre and all roads in the town tarmarked to ensure the smooth facilitation of the marathon participants.

The Marathon is sponsored by Tusker Lite, the title sponsors, Standard Chartered bank, Cfao, PSFU, Britam, Rwenzori water and the Ministry of Tourism.
