The Director General of the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO), Dr. Yona Baguma, paid a business visit to Sumz Food Industries Limited, the makers of the popular Sumz snack brand. Psalms Food Industries has recently unveiled a new and expanded production plant in Nkoowe, Wakiso District, to meet the growing demand for its products.
A key highlight of the visit was the company’s strong partnership with local farmers who supply the bulk of its raw materials. Many of these farmers are using technologies developed by NARO, underscoring the organisation’s contribution to strengthening value chains and supporting industrial growth.
This collaboration between NARO and Sumz Food Industries reflects a broader national push towards agro-industrialisation, where scientific research and innovation directly feed into industry to create jobs, boost production, and improve livelihoods across Uganda.
