Uganda has intensified efforts to attract foreign investment at the ongoing Uganda–United States Investment Forum taking place at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Washington, D.C.
The forum was officially opened by the Minister of State for General Duties, Henry Musasizi, who called for stronger partnerships in business, trade, and technology.
“It is a pleasure to be here to discuss business, investment and opportunities that would make all of us more prosperous,” Musasizi said.
He highlighted Uganda’s ambitious national target of growing its economy tenfold by 2040 to reach a Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 500 billion dollars, noting that the country is seeking partners to help achieve this goal.
The minister pointed to key sectors with vast investment potential, including agro-industrialisation, tourism, minerals and the extractive industry, science and technology, as well as infrastructure development.
The Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Ramathan Ggoobi, presented Uganda’s investment case, describing the country as one of the most attractive destinations on the continent.
Ggoobi said Uganda offers a stable environment for investors, citing low macroeconomic risk, high returns on investment, and a peaceful business climate supported by a favourable tax regime and efficient administration.
He also noted that Uganda is in advanced negotiations with the International Monetary Fund for a new extended credit facility, while its relationship with the World Bank has been fully restored.
Other senior government officials at the forum include the Attorney General, Kiryowa Kiwanuka, who reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to maintaining a conducive investment environment.
Also present are the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Monica Musenero, and the Governor of the Bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi-Ego, who are engaging American investors on opportunities across various sectors.
The forum is part of Uganda’s broader strategy to position itself as a prime investment destination and strengthen economic ties with the United States.
