Police in Katwe Division have arrested 29 suspects following an operation targeting motorcycle theft in parts of Kampala.
According to the Deputy Police Spokesperson, Kampala Metropolitan, Luke Owoyesigyire, the operation was conducted on April 17, 2026, in Ndeeba and Muganzirwaza areas after a public outcry over increasing cases of stolen motorcycles.
The suspects, all male, were arrested in Muganzirwaza Zone and Mutebi Zone in Rubaga Division.
Police also recovered 24 motorcycle spare parts and several old number plates believed to be linked to the suspected criminal activities. Among the recovered number plates are UFY 763/A, UGG 874/E, UMA 304DR, UET 612/L, and UMA 267GT.
In addition, 10 shops in Muganzirwaza have been cordoned off pending further searches as investigations continue.
Police say the operations are ongoing as part of efforts to curb crime and dismantle networks involved in motorcycle theft.
Authorities have commended members of the public for raising the alarm, noting that community cooperation remains key in fighting crime.
