Uganda launches humanitarian assistance project with Chinese support

Government has launched the Humanitarian Assistance Grant Project aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs while supporting long-term resilience.

The project was launched by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja alongside Ministers Hilary Onek, Lillian Aber and Okello Oryem, and the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Chinese Embassy in Uganda, Fan Xuecheng.

The initiative is supported by the Government of the People’s Republic of China and is expected to provide immediate relief to vulnerable communities while strengthening systems to respond to future challenges.

Speaking at the launch, the Prime Minister said the project reflects growing cooperation between Uganda and China, built on shared efforts to respond to humanitarian needs.

She commended the Chinese government for what she described as timely support, noting that it strengthens relations between the two countries.

Officials said the project will contribute to ongoing efforts to improve response to humanitarian situations while supporting recovery and resilience.
